Penn-Mont Receives Grant from First Energy
Beverly Green, Manager of External Affairs with First Energy Corporation, recently presented a check in the amount of $1000 to Penn-Mont for “Energizing Students through Enrichment and Reinforcement,” a new project to provide access to smart apps that will allow students Pre-Kindergarten to 6th grade to learn at their own pace.
Penn-Mont’s Makerspace Coordinator, Rachel Cahill-Itle, will use the funds to purchase the Osmo Genius Kit, Osmo Coding Family, and Pizza Co. smart apps that are intended to help students develop skills relating to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. Students will start with very basic letter and number recognition smart apps and develop into computer coding and programming. Student progress can grow as the student’s independent skills grow. Mastery of skills will be monitored, recorded, and shared with parents using Transparent Classroom.
Students will then have the opportunity to showcase their newly found skills to family and friends on STEM and Museum nights. This will assist our students in further developing their skills in our Makerspace Prototyping classroom called “Innovation Station.”
