#GivingTuesday and Penn-Mont Community Service Efforts
Recently, our sixth grade students learned about #GivingTuesday from Miss April, Penn-Mont’s Director of Development. As you know, #GivingTuesday is a global generosity movement that unleashes the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and the world. Penn-Mont students immediately made the connection between their own community services projects and this movement. We wanted to share their current project with you.
Helping Sister Paula and St. Vincent De Paul “Food for Families” Soup Kitchen is always a top philanthropic focus for our Penn-Mont students. Our youth are very passionate about this cause and donate many hours of their time and lots of energy. Students conduct several fundraisers to support their projects for this group.
Penn-Mont students conduct a “Soup in a Jar” sale in which they sell dry soup mixes to their families, friends and school community helps them raise the monies they need for this project. Their goal was to raise $1200. Students learned from Sister Paula that very often the soup kitchen clients must choose between purchasing food for their families and personal care items to meet basic hygiene needs. Monies raised will be used to purchase and distribute personal care items to St. Vincent clients. With sale proceeds, students and teachers will shop at the Dollar Tree stores in the area to select and purchase items needed to make 200 adult bags and 25 youth bags full of personal care items such as: deodorant, soap, washcloths, shampoo, tissue packs, band aids, combs, sunscreen, lip balm, toothbrushes, toothpaste, a little candy, etc. Students will then make a trip to St. Vincent’s to greet and distribute the bags.
Thank you Penn-Mont students for making a difference this #GivingTuesday !
