Arts and Enrichment

After School Enrichment

Three times a year (Fall, Winter, Spring) Penn-Mont offers After School Enrichment Programs for Elementary students.

Foreign Language

At Penn-Mont we begin planting the seeds of foreign language learning at the Children’s House level, and expand through the elementary years.

Library

Penn-Mont’s library is the information center for our learning community.   The library houses more than 5,000 volumes — picture books, fiction for all ages, and non-fiction research and reference titles that reflect the broad range of our curriculum.  Our School Librarian conducts classes for our Kindergarten and Elementary students.

Visual Arts

Children in Kindergarten and Elementary have opportunities to create art not only in their classrooms but also in a weekly art class in Penn-Mont’s dedicated art room. Under the nurturing guidance of our art instructor, even the most reluctant young artist feels free to create. Students may choose to express their ideas in all mediums, from watercolor and sculpture, to painting and drawing.

Music Enrichment

Penn-Mont’s music program for Kindergarten and Elementary students is based on the internationally-recognized Orff approach in which children begin with what they do instinctively — play! Imitation, experimentation, and personal expression occur naturally as students become confident musicians and creative problem solvers.

Physical Education

Physical education classes for Kindergarten and Elementary students, teach children about their bodies in space, how to work as a team, and how to be healthy. The emphasis in Penn-Mont’s Physical Education program is upon helping children develop to their fullest potential. We meet children where they are in their physical development and at their ability level.  In addition to gaining strength, flexibility and gross motor control, children also learn the life skills of teamwork, cooperation and good sportsmanship.  They gain the self-confidence to enjoy a lifetime of physical activity.

Summer Camps

Penn-Mont’s summer camp, Camp Montessori, offers week-long sessions for Toddler, Children’s House and Elementary age students. Children will enjoy working with Montessori materials, as well as outdoor free play and games on the playground and in our Outdoor Classroom, along with options like science experiments, nature study, gardening, art, cooking, and just spending time with friends. Summer Camp is a great way for new students to get to know the Penn-Mont community, and to get acclimated to their time away from home prior to starting in the fall.

Outdoor Classroom

The outdoor space is a safe, self-contained environment where students can connect with the natural world.  The different learning areas in the Outdoor Environment allow multiple classrooms to use the space at the same time for lessons, curriculum enrichment and physical activity.
